Bisbee Mining & Historical Museum

Purpose: Expanding Educational Services With this grant the Bisbee Mining and Historical Museum will enhance its educational offerings through both exhibition and outreach programming for the Digging In initiative. Digging In is a collaboration between the Museum, Cochise College, the Arizona Mining Association and the Smithsonian Institution that tells the story of mining in the Bisbee area over the past 100+ years. The exhibition will create two distinct environments: a dimly lit underground mine, juxtaposed with a brightly lit open-pit mine, to tell the story. Supplemental educational materials, including a teacher's handbook (both online and published) will integrate issues of resource extraction, environmental stewardship, and consumer responsibility into classroom curriculum.
