Florida Museum of Natural History

Purpose: Expanding Educational Services Funding will assist with the continued implementation of Marvelous Explorations through Science and Stories (MESS) at the Florida Museum of Natural History. MESS is an innovative partnership with the Museum and two school districts that provides a literature-based science program for more than 900 low-income pre-school children enrolled in Head Start. MESS develops a foundation for the children's future academic success by promoting literacy in general and science literacy in particular. The program provides classrooms with MESS kits that contain objects, books, materials, and inquiry- based activities and integrated across the curriculum. In addition, parents and children are invited to participate in special science and literacy programs held at the Museum each fall and spring.
