Museum of Fine Arts, Houston

Building Public Access Over the past decade, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston has aimed at becoming "a place for all people," focusing on broadening its audience. This grant will help the museum implement the second phase of its Web site development: attracting a broader audience and offering opportunities for in-depth learning about works of art in the museum's permanent collection. In a pilot project aimed at elementary and secondary schools, the museum will prepare information on 32 items from their collection, develop a Web component to facilitate "looking and learning" at specific works of art, and create new online activities. The aim is to enable students and their teachers to gain a greater understanding of art in their classrooms before they visit the museum's galleries.
