Building Public Access The Internet has become a valuable tool to reach out to people living in rural areas. This is particularly true in North Dakota, where opportunities to access informal science education within driving distance of one's home are limited. The Gateway to Science Center, Inc. proposes using funding to transform its existing Web site into a dynamic, interactive, and efficient tool. The redesigned site will enable individuals in rural parts of the state to access the Gateway to Science educational services previously available only in Bismark. It will also allow teachers and students access to online learning plans and activities, facilitate teacher workshop and public program registration, and provide online training for traveling science trunks. When possible, the Web site will highlight special science weeks, e.g., Chemistry Week and National Engineers Week.
