Christiansburg Institute, Inc.

Log Number: MH-255634-OMS-24

The Christiansburg Institute will implement programming in local high schools and create an internship program. The Christiansburg Institute (1866-1966) was founded as a school, led by Booker T. Washington. Today, the Christianburg Institute holds thousands of records that represent the experiences of African Americans in Southwest Virginia. Working with Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Christiansburg Institute will offer paid, remote internships for students to learn digital asset management and catalog the Institute’s collection. Programming developed for local high school students will include internships, workshops, in-classroom visits, and newly created lesson plans. For the project, staff will also develop a traveling exhibit related to Christianburg Institute to be hosted at various HBCUs.
