Reginald F. Lewis Museum of Maryland African American History and Culture

Log Number: MH-251415-OMS-22

The Reginald F. Lewis Museum of Maryland African American History and Culture will support the growth and development of emerging museum professionals by creating opportunities to engage with and learn from African American museum leaders. To strengthen its community engagement efforts, the museum will establish a paid community engagement and education internship. The intern, supported by museum staff, will recruit community members to serve as docents and volunteers. The intern will develop training programs based on trauma-informed museum education approaches and social-emotional learning techniques, enabling docents and volunteers to effectively engage the museum’s diverse visitors. By providing this meaningful internship experience, the museum will strengthen its capacity to meet visitor needs as well as build a pipeline of interns and museum practitioners from underrepresented communities.
