Houston Public Library (The African American Library at the Gregory School)

The Houston Public Library’s African American Library at the Gregory School, in partnership with Houston Freedmen’s Town Conservancy, will preserve 5 collections relating to Houston’s Historic Fourth Ward district and Freedmen’s Town. The project will support the hiring of a contract Project Archivist and acquisition of digitization equipment and supplies to undertake the archival processing and digitization of 2,907 archived materials. The project will result in electronic finding aids, a comprehensive photo database of high-quality images, and increased accessibility to resource material. The digitized collections will be utilized in community partnership projects such as the Emancipation National Historic Trail, the Freedmen's Town Atlas, and an augmented reality app for Freedmen’s Town.
