African American Firefighter Museum

Log Number: MH-00-15-0007-15

This African American Firefighter Museum will address key priorities from a recent Museum Assessment Program (MAP) report that will result in a curatorial master plan that will be integrated with the institution's organizational strategic plan. The museum will hire a curatorial consultant to develop a comprehensive curatorial master plan that includes strategies and action steps to develop new exhibitions and to create a collections management program for the proper inventory, storage and exhibition of the museum collection. Project activities will be overseen by a volunteer curator, allowing the museum's volunteer board and staff to benefit from working closely with two well-known local curators over a twelve-month period. The project is intended to build capacity for the museum while enriching public awareness and excitement for the preservation and celebration of the history and culture of black firefighters.
