African American Civil War Museum

The African American Civil War Memorial Museum will contract with expert consultants to develop a docent training manual, including content focusing on best practices in museum exhibit interpretation as well as African American Civil War soldier history. The consultants will lead a docent training program to form a team of 24 docents who will volunteer a minimum of five hours each month, greatly enhancing the museum's capacity to provide learning experiences for its visitors. The project will also include development of a training assessment tool in addition to making docent training materials accessible on the museum's Web site to support ongoing training for existing docents and the recruitment of new volunteers. A brochure will be designed and published to alert visitors to the availability of the expanded tour schedule in the museum's new facility.
