Mayme Clayton Library & Museum

Log Number: MH-00-10-0013-10

The Mayme Clayton Library & Museum will hire a new executive director to manage the nation's largest independently held assemblage of materials authored by or related to Americans of African descent. The new director will be immersed in a planned series of workshops and other training opportunities to provide familiarity with the archival management of the institution, in addition to participating in peer mentoring activities designed to build a team of experts capable and willing to provide ongoing professional consultation and support. IMLS funds will also be used to double the hours of the part-time archivist, who will work with existing volunteers to establish “train the trainer” sessions to involve more students and adult volunteers in professionally processing the collections of this West Coast repository of over three million items.
