Conservation Center for Art and Historic Artifacts

The Conservation Center for Art and Historic Artifacts will develop a free online Collections Management Policy Tool (CMPT) to create customized collections management policies for museums and other collecting institutions. The CMPT is intended as a standard for best practice by small and medium-size institutions to develop collections management policies that are complete, meet the needs of the collection, and are legally and ethically sound. In collaboration with a web design and development firm, the center will establish an online procedure for streamlining the writing of a collections management policy. The center will convene an advisory team of content experts to guide the development of the online tool. The CMPT will be tested on a pool of fifteen diverse collecting institutions, using their feedback to refine the online CMPT and to promote the official launch. The national launch of the CMPT website will include a series of webinars and presentations at national and regional conferences.
