The San Jose Museum of Art will invest in institution-wide trainings and infrastructure designed to build collaboration into the basic processes of museum operations. Project activities include a mixture of on-demand and in-person trainings for staff focused on developing core competencies for working effectively in a non-hierarchical organization along with the implementation of improved communication tools, procedures, and practices. Staff trainings will focus on efforts to systematically grow cross-institutional cohesion and practices to reduce internal inefficiencies rooted in inconsistent use of existing technology. The project will result in numerous changes to the museum’s operations by standardizing the use of digital collaboration tools, initiating 360-degree performance reviews, and launching collaborative and cross-departmental budgeting practices. Creating a culture of learning and collaboration will benefit museum staff as well as the community the museum serves.
