Cylburn Arboretum

Log Number: MA-31-18-0012-18

In response to a formal conservation assessment, the Cylburn Arboretum will improve plant health and aesthetics for its East Oval lawn area and Holly Collection. Project activities will begin with soil testing and site clean-up, debris removal, and weed control. Arborist work to remove dead tree limbs and weed trees will be followed by pruning of trees and shrubs and hand pruning of holly specimens. Additional work will include weed control, creating bed lines and tree rings, and adding soil amendments. The arboretum's volunteer curatorial assistant will update the collections database with information about the condition of each specimen, and document findings and specific actions taken through the project. The project will demonstrate best practices for maintaining a collection of this kind and provide a strong foundation for future instructional programs.
