Historic Saranac Lake

Historic Saranac Lake will create a long-range preservation plan for its museum collections. The plan will delineate procedures for collections care, update policies, and set long-term goals for the collections. Additionally, the plan will establish preservation priorities based on updated recommendations of a 2011 NEH-funded preservation assessment, a survey of current conditions, and research findings. The plan will make recommendations in the areas of environmental control, disaster planning, security, housekeeping, collections storage and housing, digital storage, reformatting, and conservation treatment. The document will include guidelines for future periodic review and updating of the museum's preservation plan, and will improve the museum's ability to provide management, care, and conservation of, as well as broad access to and use of its collections.
