Evansville Museum of Arts and Science

Log Number: MA-31-17-0239-17

The Evansville Museum of Arts, History and Science will conduct a full inventory of its history collections. The museum will hire a part-time collections manager to work with its curatorial staff and six college interns to implement the project. Activities will begin with a systematic inventory of objects from the history collection housed in the museum's off-site storage facility. The project team will digitally photograph each object, complete condition reports, review existing records-both paper and digital-and input missing catalog information into the museum's computer database system. The knowledge gained through this process will assist the museum in identifying rehousing needs of the artifacts and in planning to address those needs. The project will culminate in the creation of a more accurate computer database, making the collection more accessible and therefore available for expanded use in exhibitions. It will allow the museum's curatorial staff to make more informed collections management decisions regarding accessions, deaccessions, loans, and conservation projects.
