Mohonk Preserve

Log Number: MA-30-19-0447-19

The Mohonk Preserve will improve access to natural history observations recorded in the 20th century by its co-founder, Daniel Smiley, and other research associates. The collections of biodiversity, phenology, and general ecology data are stored in the preserve's Daniel Smiley Research Center on more than 10,000 note cards. This format limits both access and analysis. The center will digitize the cards and 3,669 items from its specimen collection and upload them into open access websites. Citizen science volunteers, trained and supervised by the center's professional staff, will perform the digitization work. The project will result in collections that are more easily accessible. They will be used by multiple organizations and scientists to support research on climate change, biodiversity, bird migration, and human impacts on the environment.
