The Denver Art Museum will improve collections preservation and management by providing cooler, drier conditions for vulnerable collection objects. The museum will install a 1,000-square-foot cold storage vault and accompanying storage furniture. The new storage system will improve long-term preservation for materials or components that are at-risk for natural or chemical aging. The project team will inventory and rehouse over 2,800 artworks, including traditional photographic prints, 35mm color transparencies, magnetic media, and furs. The museum will update associated institutional collections and conservation policies and procedures and provide training for staff regarding cold storage and procedures for accessing these collections.
