The Henry Ford
Log Number: MA-30-17-0331-17
The Henry Ford will conserve, rehouse, relocate, and create fully digital catalog records for over 2,500 items currently housed in its industrial collections storage building. Project artifacts will undergo mold remediation, be cleaned and stabilized, and have catalog records created or updated and properly formatted. The objects will also be photographed and added to the museum's digital collections database. Project activities will advance the museum's ongoing efforts to deal with long-standing preservation issues of overcrowding, dirt, mold, and the associated deterioration of its collections. Proper rehousing will improve the collections' physical safety, reduce crowding, and make them easier to care for and maintain. Access to the collections will also be improved by making these artifacts physically available for exhibitions, or other uses, and virtually available to all through the museum's online collections catalog, which includes nearly 60,000 items.
