Chicago Botanic Garden

Log Number: MA-30-14-0336-14

The Chicago Botanic Garden will conduct a detailed survey of 23,000 shrubs in its campus's main tract to assess their health and create an immediate action plan for the specimens in poor condition, providing the basis for determining long-term conservation priorities and a plan for the collection. In addition, the garden will survey public gardens to determine the current state of cultivar preservation nationally. This project's findings will allow for better care and management of the garden's shrub collection, strengthen and safeguard the nation's collection of cultivars, increase accessibility, and heighten awareness of the value of preserving cultivars and the critical role that botanic gardens play in this effort.
