Barnes Foundation

Log Number: MA-30-13-0599-13

The Barnes Foundation will conserve 22 works of art on paper from its permanent collection, including art by Picasso, Cezanne, Klee, Degas, and Renoir. The museum will engage the Conservation Center for Art and Historical Artifacts to complete conservation treatment and rehousing. These works were chosen for their artistic significance and vulnerability resulting from lack of ultraviolet filtering and poor-quality housing. The project will replace acidic material in existing housings, complete any needed frame treatments, and return works to their original frames. Staff will make digital images and include them with conservation documentation in the collections management database. The project will increase collection accessibility for education, research, and aesthetic appreciation; and develop a program series to inform members and general audiences about the need for conservation and environmental controls in preserving the collection.
