Log Number: MA-30-13-0549-13

Yale University’s Peabody Museum of Natural History will purchase 64 museum-quality storage cabinets to rehouse its systematic mineralogy collection of 40,000 specimens to correct overcrowding and poor storage conditions and provide improved access. The museum’s mineralogy collection is used by researchers worldwide, and has supported significant studies and publications including the work of James D. Dana, whose pioneering work on the systematic classification of minerals is widely used today. The collection includes a group of minerals from lost and/or permanently inaccessible localities ranging from closed 18th and 19th century European mines to sites buried under the roads and buildings of Manhattan Island.
