Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art

Log Number: MA-30-13-0484-13

The Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art will complete three critical preventive conservation improvements for its collections storage vault, in accordance with its long-range conservation plan. The museum will replace carpeting with inert flooring to prevent damage from backing material or adhesive vapors. It will improve and extend the life of its Halon fire suppression system by adding a laser smoke detection system and replacing hoses and the Halon releasing panel. The museum will optimize vault space by purchasing museum quality storage cabinets to house Native American objects, such as clothing and textiles, requiring flat storage, and add five space-saving print storage units to re-house framed artwork. This project will improve collection preservation, and increase the museum’s capacity to be an effective steward of the collections it holds in the public trust.
