Toledo Zoo
Log Number: MA-30-13-0471-13
The aquarium at the Toledo Zoo will obtain new life support systems for an interactive visitor touch tank containing invertebrates, and another holding sharks and stingrays. The exhibits provide multi-sensory experiences that connect people with animals, while the systems ensure the animals are properly cared for. The exhibits are part of a major interior renovation and revitalization for the historic aquarium, constructed with recycled materials and Works Progress Administration funding in 1937. Project goals are to provide top-quality, consistent care for an aquatic animal collection that includes threatened and endangered species, while enhancing the visitor experience with conservation education. Renovated facilities will allow the aquarium to keep more delicate and larger species than was possible with previous antiquated systems, encouraging and inspiring visitors to care for animals and conserve the natural world.
