Log Number: MA-30-13-0460-13

The Walters Art Museum in Baltimore will hire a full-time contract conservator who will work with permanent museum staff to access, document, clean, and stabilize 14 key art works in its Southeast Asian collection: three manuscript cabinets, five large Buddhist sculptures, four smaller objects including a jewelry box, and two paintings. In addition, technical analyses will be conducted and a treatment protocol established for one large painted textile parade banner. In 2015, the museum will convene a group of textile and modern paintings conservators along with Southeast Asian specialists and Walters’ staff for a day-long meeting at the museum to view the banner and exchange ideas and information regarding its treatment and care. In addition to helping define the treatment protocol, a report from the convening will be shared broadly through posting on the museum’s website.
