Museum of Northern Arizona
Log Number: MA-30-13-0456-13
The Museum of Northern Arizona will conduct planning, develop a digital policy and a digital procedures guide, and complete pilot rehousing projects to address preservation needs for its endangered photo archives. Most of the photographic content is primary, original, unique and irreplaceable, and comprises an import resource for scholars, staff, tribes, and the public. The museum will hire an associate archivist; pilot rehousing projects for the print collection, slides, film, and audio; and engage a photographic materials conservator to provide on-site consultation, a university lecture, and a photographic materials workshop for area colleagues. The planning process will set realistic priorities to guide photo archives preservation, allowing the museum to better allocate space, time, and funding. The pilot projects will protect master digital assets from loss and deterioration and improve the quality of images and information provided to users.
