Museum of New Mexico Foundation (Museum of Indian Arts and Culture)

Log Number: MA-30-13-0449-13

The Museum of New Mexico Foundation will hire a project conservator and an assistant conservator to treat the highest priority pieces in the museum’s collection of 5,000 whole and reconstructed archaeological ceramic vessels and 4,500 historic and contemporary vessels in preparation for their transfer to the newly completed Center for New Mexico Archaeology. Focusing on the 419 vessels that have been deemed too unstable to safely handle, pack, or transport, the project will include consultations with Native American advisors and potters and two ceramics analysts/archaeologists. It will serve as a model for the holistic and collaborative stewardship of cultural archaeological collections and the engagement of communities in the preservation of ancestral heritage.
