Scripps College (Ruth Chandler Williamson Gallery, Scripps College)

Log Number: MA-30-13-0444-13

The Ruth Chandler Williamson Gallery will engage a conservator to clean, repair, and remount six historical Chinese paintings in its permanent collection. The museum will produce an educational booklet that illustrates the process, focusing on methods of cleaning and repairing silk, and returning works to their traditional Chinese hand scroll and scroll formats. To accompany an exhibition of the conserved painting, the museum will hold a conservation symposium to share little-known methods of conserving Asian art. The project will enrich learning for students in Scripps College’s new Art Conservation major, and benefit scholars of Chinese paintings, who can view works that have not been exhibited in decades.
