Science Museum of Minnesota

The Science Museum of Minnesota (SMM) will inventory and digitize 1,300 objects in its Plains American Indian ethnology collections. Activities include updating catalog and location information, standardizing object descriptions, creating new digital object images, augmenting catalog information through researching paper records, and improving the database lexicon and field definitions to ease searches and streamline data entry. The museum will make the object records available to the public via the museum’s Collections Online website. The project will coordinate a variety of management and conservation activities regarding these collections with the goal of rendering them more accessible to a variety of museum audiences through research, new exhibits, and a searchable database.
