Nichols House Museum, Inc.

Log Number: MA-30-13-0015-13

The Nichols House Museum will work with Northeast Document Conservation Center to undertake conservation treatment and re-matting and re-framing of forty-two photographs, watercolors, mezzotints, photolithographs, and gravures in its permanent collection. The conservation project will protect the historically significant art and allow the museum to share more of its collection with visitors and researchers. The prints represent a significant aspect of the art of the historic home, comprising 70 percent of the Nichols family’s fine art collection. The prints are an important element of the home’s historic décor, and are a tool for teaching visitors about America’s history through visual culture. The museum will create a special exhibit to highlight the prints and their conservation treatment during the yearlong project. It will share project information with the community through social media and local news articles and present a professional lecture on the project to provide education on best practices in collection care.
