Willa Cather Foundation

Log Number: MA-256058-OMS-24

The Willa Cather Foundation will develop new exhibits for two historic sites that are connected to author Willa Cather’s life and writing: the Burlington Depot and the Pavelka Farmstead, both of which will increase understanding of life in rural Nebraska during the late-nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Project activities will include refining a preliminary exhibit conceptual design, curating content, developing designs, fabricating components, and installing the exhibits. Exhibit content will be made accessible online and through a mobile app. The team will incorporate interpretive strategies such as textual support for spoken tour narratives, low-vision friendly text and graphics, and right-height interpretive rails, panels, and object mounts. Through the exhibits, visitors will connect the historic sites to their relevance in Cather’s life and writing, and to their own lives by considering universal themes in Cather’s literature.
