Newton Historical Society (Jackson Homestead and Museum)

The Jackson Homestead and Museum will undertake a project to evaluate, catalog, and rehouse their collection of costumes, accessories, and other textiles. The museum will recruit and hire a part-time collections manager to lead activities including photographing, documenting, rehousing, and pest remediation. The team will also deep-clean the textile storage areas and implement an integrated pest management policy which will include treatment of insect-vulnerable textiles using a deep freezer. This project will produce a well-documented and accessible collection stored in a clean, pest-free environment with a plan for ongoing care. Online catalog records will expand public access and empower staff to utilize the textiles for programs and exhibits.
