Log Number: MA-255663-OMS-24

The Mildred E. Mathias Botanical Garden at the University of California, Los Angeles will undertake a project to assess their plant inventory, improve their database management, prioritize future collection expansion, and develop an action plan to meet strategic goals. The garden will recruit and hire a post-doctoral curator to lead the effort of assessing the inventory and supervising undergraduate interns that will update information in the collections database. Using input gathered from stakeholders, the project team will develop a collections management policy and a living collections strategic plan. At the conclusion of the project, museum staff will have greater intellectual control over the collections and a roadmap for making them more accessible to the local student community, the research community, and members of the Gabrielino/Tongva peoples, who are the traditional land caretakers of the Los Angeles basin.
