Mystic Seaport Museum

Mystic Seaport Museum will stabilize and improve the condition of film negatives from its collection that have been affected by a form of severe deterioration known as vinegar syndrome. Museum staff will evaluate, select, treat, digitize, rehouse, and catalog thousands of images from the collection. The museum will hire and train an additional conservation technician to assist in cataloging and recovery of the objects in compliance with professional conservation standards. As a result of the project, staff will create a sustainable model for the ongoing in-house treatment of negatives affected by vinegar syndrome and will share results of the project online and through professional conferences.
