National Building Museum
Log Number: MA-252010-OMS-22
The National Building Museum will increase accessibility to its three-dimensional objects by cataloging and digitizing the collections and creating an open storage gallery. The museum will supervise ten paid graduate student interns to assist in inventorying, cataloging, and rehousing objects, which include tools, toys, and models, as well as works on paper, drawings, and photographs. The project team will digitize and upload up to 20,000 objects to an online collection database. The museum will contract with a design firm to create an open storage space to house and display 5,000 of the artifacts, providing greater public access and new learning opportunities. The museum will also hire a curator to conduct collection research and create interpretive materials for exhibition. The museum will engage the public throughout the project and work with George Washington University to evaluate the effectiveness of the online database.
