The Young At Art Museum will partner with the Housing Authority of the City of Fort Lauderdale to establish “The ArtHouse” in a renovated inner city neighborhood. The project will enable museum staff, professional artists and low-income residents of all ages to participate in a socially engaged approach in which the creation of public art, community exhibitions, events and art-based programs can transform a disengaged, low-income neighborhood into a thriving, vibrant connected community. With construction funds provided by the housing authority, the museum will renovate an abandoned duplex to create two studios for ceramics, painting, drawing, and printmaking. The museum will hire an ArtHouse manager and two museum art instructors to implement educational programming in conjunction with professional working artists from across south Florida. IMLS funds will also support the cost of equipping the space with professional studio equipment and supplies. The museum will work with residents to develop family events, teen and senior video history projects, and community events including three public art projects annually.
