Newport Art Museum and Art Association will expand its Museum Studies (MUSE) program which works with underserved high school students to promote interest in museum careers through active engagement with arts, cultural, and historic preservation institutions in Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts. The program will introduce a new group of high school students to diverse art and cultural institutions in Rhode Island; encourage lifelong engagement with arts and culture; foster the next generation of museum membership; increase awareness of museum, conservation, and historic preservation fields as career choices; and engage students with school-to-career mentoring opportunities. The program will include a pilot course at two additional public high schools, a museum career fair, and increased paid internship opportunities both at the museum and at community partner institutions. The expansion effort will enable more students to cultivate their professional skills and learn about careers in museums and cultural and historic organizations.
