The Fort Collins Museum of Discovery will undertake a two-year community engagement project called Living with Fire: A Community Responds to tell the story of the High Park Fire of June 2012, which consumed more than 87,000 acres of woodland, burned 259 homes, forced 33,000 residents to evacuate, and claimed one life. The community is still recovering more than a year after the lightning strike that started the blaze. The museum will collect and share the stories of the people impacted by the fire; offer opportunities for collaboration, conversations, and research with other local agencies; and provide educational programs to the community in collaboration with other community organizations to share these stories and to provide information and resources.
