Yerba Buena Center for the Arts
Log Number: MA-10-13-0470-13
The Yerba Buena Center for the Arts will bring the arts experience offsite, using artist-led experiential art-making sessions to connect with underserved communities and individuals who typically do not attend museums. The museum will reinforce cultural connectivity by reaching low-income audiences in their own communities, including Filipinos in San Francisco, Central Americans in San Francisco, and East Africans in Oakland. Local or international artists who are deeply connected with these communities will design a total of nine projects to take place in untraditional spaces ranging from community centers and government buildings to restaurants, parks, and low-income housing complexes. In addition to the artists, the museum will collaborate with six to ten community organizations and a variety of project advisors. The project will create a framework for accessible arts engagement, providing a transformative experience to positively change participants’ lives and communities, their appreciation of the arts, and their relationship with the museum.
