Peralta Hacienda Historical Park

The Peralta Hacienda Historical Park will make the museum and its history more accessible to Spanish-speaking residents and visitors by strengthening and expanding its Community Tour Leaders Corps program. The program engages a diverse pool of neighborhood residents as interpretive specialists who understand the site’s historical content, have confidence in engaging visitors, and give excellent tours of the site. IMLS funds will support a staff position to direct the program and to mentor tour leaders. The museum will translate all exhibit content into Spanish to enhance the experience of the Spanish language tours. The project will increase the number of community tour leaders, triple their training time, and enrich training with hands-on and community building activities. The project will also create a school fieldtrip for the Peralta House exhibits staffed by community tour leaders, enabling the museum to serve more fourth grade classes.
