City of Ontario (Ontario Museum of History and Art)

The Museum of History and Art, Ontario, is a small but professionally operated museum serving a large and diverse audience in inland Southern California. With its grant, the museum will conduct a capacity-building project to improve the ability of the museum’s small staff to develop in-house interpretive exhibitions exploring the history of Ontario and its surrounding communities. Project activities include a series of staff development workshops, staff attendance at national and regional professional conferences, and site visits to other museums. The project team will develop a “test” local history exhibition using an existing draft process during which it will engage in significant consultant/evaluator facilitated assessments of the experience. These assessments will be used to revise the process in order to integrate the exhibition development process into the ongoing, daily work of the museum.
