The Science Museum of Virginia has approved a strategic plan that will transform the museum from a traditional Industrial Age museum into a Knowledge Age institution equipped to meet the needs of its twenty-first century community. The museum’s foundation will develop a master plan for historic Broad Street Station, a 205,000 square foot neoclassical train station that has served as the museum’s main facility since 1977. The building master plan will be the culmination of an eighteen-month process that will also involve branding, technology planning, and exhibit concept development. The museum’s building team reflects the expertise in architecture, construction, historic preservation, sustainable design, and experiential learning necessary to renovate this historic landmark into the dynamic, interactive, and highly adaptable learning space that will engage and inspire Virginians to enrich their lives through science.
