The Detroit Historical Society will use its grant to fund the digitization of approximately 70,000 archival documents including prints, negatives, slides, scrapbooks, correspondence, oversize maps, blueprints, and ship construction plans. The project will include four phases—preparation, digitization, access, and evaluation—and will focus on the needs of local teachers and scholars. The project will provide two crucial benefits aligned with the society’s mission and strategic plan: increased access to and long-term preservation of the material culture entrusted to the organization.
