The Peabody Museum at Harvard University will begin a documentation project to strengthen capacity for new scholarly research, teaching, exhibition, and community involvement with world culture collections. The 27-month project will support the final phase of the museum’s multiyear cataloguing and digital imaging initiative to make globally accessible its primary archaeological resources ranging from the Neolithic period to the 19th century from sites in the Americas, Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Pacific Islands. Nearly 20,000 new or updated object records and digital images will be uploaded to the museum’s Web-accessible Collections Online database. The project directly contributes to multidisciplinary teaching and research missions of the museum and university, and advances the museum’s strategic planning goals by increasing physical and intellectual control of its collections.
