The Country Music Hall of Fame will begin a multiphase “Moving Image Access Project” to gain intellectual and physical control over its collection of more than 27,058 moving image items. The museum’s archives hold a vital collection of moving images that document the history of country music and North American vernacular music. Now in Phase Three of the project, the Hall of Fame will catalog 5,163 unprocessed three-quarter-inch U-Matic tapes. The unique content housed on this collection of tapes is one of the most requested and essential portions of the moving image collection; however, the majority of the content is currently inaccessible. This project will improve the museum’s ability to safeguard the items in its care and to increase access to their intellectual content.
