The Cambridge Historical Society (CHS) will use its grant to digitize two archival collections that belonged to two prominent 19th-century women in Cambridge. The two collections are The Lois Lilley Howe Photographic Collection and the Sarah Bull Papers. Howe was the first successful female architect in America, and Bull initiated and sponsored the Cambridge Conferences, which brought together leading intellectual leaders for a series of lectures. CHS will create a digital library of high-resolution scans of photographs and documents in these collections and will make lower-resolution copies of these available to the public through the use of the CHS’ Web site and Flickr. The project will significantly improve CHS’ ability to exhibit and disseminate the collection material to a broader audience.
