Kansas State University will fund a biodiversity project for the museum that will support data entry of an estimated 120,000 insect specimens and create 20,000 high-resolution images of plants. The majority of the specimens are from the prairies of the Great Plains, with emphasis on the North American prairie, which is now recognized as one of the most imperiled ecosystems in the country. By correlating plant images with the insect specimen data, the project will enhance the museum’s biodiversity system. The project will also strengthen the partnership between Kansas State University’s natural history museum, herbarium, and libraries.
