The Margaret Woodbury Strong Museum will begin a project to enhance documentation of and accessibility to its unparalleled collection of pre-1930 toys, dolls, and games. The Strong will capture digital images of approximately 14,000 existing artifacts for which such images do not exist and enhance existing database records for these artifacts through additional research, documentation, and interpretation by curators. A newly hired cataloger will register and catalog Strong’s estimated 10,000 to 15,000 new acquisitions for each year of the grant period. Many of the artifacts that are the focus of the project will be included in the museum’s upcoming interpretive exhibition “America at Play.” The digital images and enhanced artifact records that result from this project are essential to Strong’s ability to significantly grow its online collections and thus make the collection accessible to the widest possible audience.
