Mackinac State Historic Parks

Mackinac State Historic Parks (MSHP) will conduct the first physical inventory of the Fort Michilimackinac archaeological collection. The collection contains more than 122,000 artifacts or groups of artifacts recovered from the site from 1959 through 2009. The purpose of the project is to ensure that every artifact is linked to its catalog record and every record includes the precise location of the artifact. MSHP will hire three temporary archaeology inventory assistants for three years to inventory and update the database. This critical collection management issue is a goal of the long-range plan and will provide greater access and use of the collection for exhibition and research.
