University of Alaska Fairbanks (University of Alaska Museum)

The University of Alaska Museum of the North Herbarium will make all of its herbarium specimens available in digital format and provide a free service to extract original data as recorded on the labels (locality, collector, scientific name, date). In addition, the museum will increase the profile and use of the herbarium collection among a critical segment of its community, K–12 teachers and their students. They will develop an intensive, week-long course for educators at the seventh through twelfth grade level that will explore techniques for teaching with the digital collection, as well as offer onsite training for rural teachers that are unable to attend the local workshop.
