The Chicago Academy of Sciences will begin a two-year project titled “The Collections Inventory Project” to inventory and digitally catalogue six of the Chicago Academy of Sciences’ collections: malacology (the study of mollusks), anthropology, scientific history, art, manuscripts, and microscope slides. Digital catalogue data will be merged with catalogue and accession data from paper records and added to the collections management database. Type specimens will be researched, verified, and photographed. The images will then be added to the database for visual documentation. Completion of this project will result in an accurate account of the holdings in these collections, the creation of digital catalogue records for the collections management database, and improved accessibility to these inventoried collections for staff, researchers, and the public.
